Poison Center Notification - Data Submission on Schedule

BASF's RegXcellence team has submitted all necessary data on its fuel and lubricant products to the European Poison Center Notification (PCN). The reason: The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) requires importers and downstream users placing hazardous mixtures on the EU market to submit a PCN under Annex VIII CLP Regulation. The focus is on mixtures that are classified as hazardous based on their health or physical effects. The timetable for this notification is as follows:

Mixtures for consumer or professional use must be submitted before 1 January 2021. Mixtures for industrial use are due three years later, by 1 January 2024. After listing, each submitter receives a so-called Unique Formula Identifier (UFI). This 16-digit code will serve as a unique link between the mixture placed on the market and the information submitted to poison centers. This information must be displayed on the labels of all packaging from the entry into force of the regulation. In case of any accident, the UFI code on the product label helps the poison centers to identify the exact product to make an immediate and well-informed health response.

"Labelling makes our customers more secure when handling our products," says Dr. Ewa Dziemidowicz-Borys, Head of Global Master Data Solution at the Performance Chemicals division. Her team supports the notification process throughout Europe.
