Esters have been used in many lubricant formulations for decades and are the preferred base oil in many applications with severe operating conditions. The need to formulate an ester base stock into the formulation depends on the final properties and performance requirements, therefore ester content may vary from few present to up to 99% of the final lubricant formulation.
